The Cyrus-nāmeh, a verse chronicle composed by Afṣar al-Molūk ʿĀmelī, is one of the few historical-epic poems in Persian literature authored by a woman. The work reconstructs Achaemenid history through a distinctly ethical and didactic narrative framework. Although formally aligned with the Persian epic tradition, The Cyrus-nāmeh departs from the conventions of classical epic in its narrative structure, linguistic choices, and temporal organization, thereby offering an alternative model of versified historical narration. The present study examines the linguistic and rhetorical mechanisms underlying the didactic discourse of The Cyrus-nāmeh and seeks to determine its position within the Persian historical-epic tradition. Employing a descriptive–analytical method grounded in intratextual analysis and structural stylistics, the study demonstrates that ʿĀmelī systematically employs concision, minimizes epic description, accelerates battle scenes, foregrounds an evaluative narrator, and organizes historical causality according to ethical principles. Through these strategies, the poem shifts the historical epic from a stage of heroic display to a space of normative judgment and moral meaning-making. The findings indicate that The Cyrus-nāmeh is not a classical epic but a hybrid text that reconfigures versified historical narrative into a rational, minimally exaggerated, and ethically oriented model.
