Abstract

The public field of poetic imagery includes major and broad topics. It involves four disputations: metonymy, metaphor, image, irony, and their alterations and branches. But among the topics of rhetoric science, several discussions can be added. In this way, we can extend the circle of the "terms", "the imaginary forms", and somehow the "image"; because in these cases, the forms that variegate depiction of meanings from the ordinary expression is the force of "poetic fancy".
One of the most important elements is "hyperbole" and its various categorizations. The role of hyperbole in some episodes of poetry history, as well as in some literary forms, is the most prominent role, and one of the most notable categories of hyperbole is epic. The significance of hyperbole in epic literature is very notable in as much as it involves all other rhetorical arrays. This research will examine and compare the "hyperbole array" between two prominent Iranian epic literature, "Shahnameh" by Ferdowsi” and "Garshasbnameh" by "Asadi Tusi." We will compare using of rhetorical features in these two works while weighing the dimension of epics maturity. Ultimately we concluded that although rhetorical elements in the hyperboles of Garshasbnameh are more intense, hyperboles in Shahnameh, considering its epic atmosphere and fitting with other elements of the genre, are more epic.
